बीजापुर के पामेड़ अभयारण्य क्षेत्र में अवैध लकड़ी कटाई और फर्नीचर निर्माण के खिलाफ वन विभाग ने बड़ी कार्रवाई करते हुए भारी मात्रा में कीमती सागौन लकड़ी और मशीनें जब्त की हैं। यह कार्रवाई धरमारम परिक्षेत्र अंतर्गत धारावरम स्कूल के पीछे स्थित पुलाम्मा वेलकम के घर पर की गई।

वनमंडलाधिकारी बीजापुर के निर्देश पर मुखबिर से मिली पुख्ता सूचना के आधार पर गठित संयुक्त वन विभागीय टीम ने छापेमारी की। इस दौरान मौके से अवैध रूप से संचालित फर्नीचर निर्माण का खुलासा हुआ। वन विभाग ने इस मामले में मुख्य आरोपी तिरूमल गिरी सतीश उर्फ सत्यम (39 वर्ष), जाति लोहार, निवासी ग्राम पामेड़, जिला बीजापुर सहित सात अन्य सहयोगियों को वन अपराध में संलिप्त पाया है।

जब्त लकड़ी और मशीनों को दो पिकअप वाहनों के माध्यम से धरमारम से रवाना कर बीती रात 11 बजे सुरक्षित बीजापुर डिपो पहुंचाया गया। वन विभाग ने स्पष्ट किया है कि संरक्षित वन क्षेत्रों में अवैध कटाई, तस्करी और मशीनों के अनधिकृत उपयोग के खिलाफ आगे भी इसी तरह सख्त कार्रवाई जारी रहेगी।
